All Star Competition

First Responder Virginia will offer plenty of competition for everyone with 17 contests planned in 2019. All contest are open to any REGISTERED ATTENDEE regardless of their Association affiliation. 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

· All competitors must be registered for the FRV to compete.

· FRV Badges must be displayed.

· Read the Rule and take note of entry deadlines.

· Bring proof of relevant certifications if necessary.

· Be sure to have your registration forms sign by all necessary persons.

· Friday, August 9thwill be a rain date for Thursday’s contests if it becomes necessary to cancel them

If you plan to participate in VSFA Competitions ...

Names of participants certified by a company officer, shall be submitted to the chair person of the Rules and Contest Committee on or before August 1st to verify their good standing of no less than (90) ninety days. The list to include verification of insurance coverage.  A drawing will be made to determine each teams running position. Any list arriving on or before the team captain's meeting will be dated and that team will run last in all contests

ALS (Advance Life Support)

Competition summary:  ALS competition is a scenario based contest that simulates a team response to an EMS call that requires advance life support skills.

VSFA SPONSORED COMPETITION

Two Man Air Pack

Competition summary: Two team members in firefighter coat, helmet and boots start at mask case, put on mask, turn on air cylinder and cross finish line fifty (50) feet away with hands raised over their heads. Time will be taken when second team member crosses finish line with hands raised.

Five Man Dressing

Competition Summary:Five team members run to boots, coat and helmet, put them on, fasten 3 snaps, raise hands over head before finish line is crossed. Time is taken when last team member crosses line. Contestants are not required to wear shoes.

VAVRS SPONSORED COMPETITION

Extrication - Ambulance

Competition Summary:  Extrication Competition – Ambulance is a hands on scenario based contest.  Teams will use skill taught in the Vehicle Extrication Course approved by the VAVRS and the Virginia DFP. Teams will be responsible for providing their own vehicle and tools.  The response vehicles used in the Ambulance Competition are restricted to vehicle licensed to transport a patient in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

VSFA SPONSORED COMPETITION

Four Man Hose

Competition Summary:  Contestants begin 50' away on a 10' starting line from center point of 150' of 2½" hose line. Remove center section. Connect first to third and third and first to hydrant, attach nozzle and show water. Time is taken when water shows through nozzle tip.

VAVRS SPONSORED COMPETITION

Extrication – Rescue Truck

Competition Summary:  Extrication Competition – Ambulance is a hands on scenario based contest.  Teams will use skill taught in the Vehicle Extrication Course approved by the VAVRS and the Virginia DFP. Teams will be responsible for providing their own vehicle and tools.  Any Fire/Rescue vehicle not licensed transport a patient in the Commonwealth of Virginia may be used in this contest.

Four Man Ladder

Competition Summary:  Contestants start 100' from structure, run, pick up ladder and place it against structure. One man climbs and grasps top rung after which time is taken

VAVRS SPONSORED COMPETITION

EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course)

Competition summary:EVOC competition test an ambulance operators skills.  The contest consist of a written test and a range event. Operator will be required to maneuver through 7 driving event to prove their abilities.  Your final score will be based on test score, driving range score and time to complete range.

VSFA SPONSORED COMPETITION

Motor Chemical

Competition Summary: Chemical team rides apparatus with motor hose team. After apparatus stops (rocks back) opposite chemical structure the ladder is removed, placed against structure. The booster line is to be advanced up the ladder, and a bell is struck with nozzle. Time is taken when bell sounds.

Rescue

Competition Summary:  Rescue Competition is a scenario based event where teams will use skill taught in the VAVRS Basic and Light Duty Rescue Awareness and Low Angle Operations and Vertical Rescue curriculums and the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Ropes curriculum.

VSFA SPONSORED COMPETITION

Motor Hose

Competition Summary:Apparatus proceeds at a rate to allow 12 to 13 seconds from starting line to finish (when the truck rocks back). The hydrant man stationed at the 100' line will leave at the arm signal of the starter. Hose is taken off apparatus and connected to hydrant. After coupling to be broken departs hose bed, it is uncoupled, a nozzle attached and water is shown through the nozzle. Time is taken when water shows through tip.

Scrapbook

Competition Summary:  Agencies and Districts prepare and present scrapbooks and Video Scrapbooks based on the theme “FIRST RESPONDERS-ONE TEAM-ONE MISSION-ONE GOAL” detailing their activities for a specified time period.  There are multiple categories to compete in.  Please see the contest rules for further information.

Date:  All scrapbooks must be received by the VAVRS Historian before July 8, 2019

One Man Hose

Competition Summary:Contestant begins at starting point with nozzle in hand, runs to and uncouples 2½" coupling, applies nozzle and drops it. Time is taken when nozzle hits the ground.

Competition Summary:  Competing Websites must represent their agency, promote their purpose and activities and First Responders in general.

Six Man Ladder

Competition Summary:  Contestants standing adjacent to a 35' extension ladder are to advance, place and extend it against the structure. 5 men then climb and depart onto tower platform. 6th man climbs ladder and time is taken when 6th man grasps the top rung. No more than three team members to be on ladder at any one time.

Truck Rodeo  Male Driver Division

Competition Summary:  The truck rodeo course is designed to measure driver proficiency in handling emergency vehicles. 

It is designed to duplicate eight situations in which the driver's skill, judgment, and knowledge of the limitations of the emergency vehicle, are required for effective maneuvering. 

The winner is based on the time to finish the course and the penalty points accumulated through the course.
